Well, Sept 16th came and L told me "my birthday has already happened!" (as if I was going to take it back). It was quite a day!!! Siblings wanted to surprise him in his bed with songs and cards. . . 
Then pancake breakfast. . . and on to a play date with his friend and her dogs. . . he had SOOO much fun . . . and made me take a picture with this tree on the way home. . .
Because we had soccer madness that evening, we opted for McD play place as our excuse for a real party (usually we do something equally lame like Chuck E Cheese!). The kids were beside themselves with glee, which goes to show that it sometimes works to never go anywhere and keep expectations low. . .
Soccer was fun as always, but with the added bonus that grandma brought beans to snap-- to the delight of several players, especially L.Some local family came over for cake and ice cream and presents. . . E was his special helper. . .
The cake was Scott's new specialty. . .devil's food cake with butter cream frosting in the shape of a monster. . . all of it so apropos . . . and worthy of the inches and pounds . . .
